Sostiene el Presidente Peña Nieto reuniones bilaterales con sus homólogos de Chile y Uruguay

  • Los Presidentes Piñera y Peña Nieto celebraron el dinamismo de la relación entre México y Chile en ámbitos prioritarios como comercio, inversión y turismo.

En el marco de su participación en la XIII Cumbre de la Alianza del Pacífico, que se realiza en Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, el Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto sostuvo una reunión bilateral con el Presidente de la República de Chile, Sebastián Piñera Echenique, quien cumple su primera visita a México desde que asumió por segunda ocasión como Presidente de Chile, el 11 de marzo de este año.

En su encuentro, los Mandatarios de México y Chile se congratularon por el dinamismo de la relación en ámbitos prioritarios como comercio, inversión y turismo. Destacaron como ejemplo la manera en la que funciona el Fondo Conjunto de Cooperación México-Chile, con el cual, tan sólo en 2017 se financiaron proyectos en las áreas de competitividad, desarrollo agrícola, educación y cultura, medio ambiente y protección social. Ambos celebraron el acercamiento que se ha propiciado entre la Alianza del Pacífico y el Mercosur, los dos bloques comerciales más importantes de América Latina.

Chile es el tercer socio comercial de México en América Latina y el Caribe. A su vez, México es su tercer socio comercial en la región. Desde la entrada en vigor del Tratado de Libre Comercio entre los dos países, en 1999, el comercio se ha triplicado al superar los 3 mil 340 millones de dólares.

Más adelante, el Presidente Peña Nieto sostuvo un encuentro de trabajo con el Presidente de la República Oriental del Uruguay, Dr. Tabaré Vázquez.

En la reunión, ambos líderes revisaron los avances en los compromisos que se establecieron durante la Visita Oficial del Presidente Vázquez a México, en noviembre de 2017. Destacaron, de manera particular, el proceso para la entrada en vigor del Acuerdo sobre Cooperación Aduanera; el fortalecimiento de los vínculos educativos, culturales y de cooperación técnica y científica, así como la celebración, en marzo pasado, de la primera Reunión Interparlamentaria, con la participación de legisladores de ambos países.

Los Presidentes de México y Uruguay expresaron su amplio interés por continuar fomentando un mayor acercamiento entre la Alianza del Pacífico y el Mercosur y, para ello, acordaron trabajar en el cumplimiento del Plan de Acción que será acordado entre dichos mecanismos.

Uruguay es el único país del Mercosur con el que México tiene un Tratado de Libre Comercio, vigente desde 2004. Entre 1999-2017, se ha posicionado como el 6° inversionista en México entre los países de América Latina y el Caribe.
