Ixtlahuaca, Estado de México.- El Secretario de Salud, Gabriel O’Shea Cuevas, entregó 865 certificaciones de “Espacios Libres de Humo de Tabaco” a igual número de instituciones públicas y privadas, con lo que se aumenta en más del 20 por ciento, con respecto al año 2017, el número de lugares en donde se promueven ambientes de convivencia más sanos.
El titular de Salud de la entidad detalló que estas acciones se realizan a través del Instituto Mexiquense Contra las Adicciones (IMCA), la cual en el último año registró una acreditación de 714 espacios de este tipo y en 2018 han incrementado las organizaciones que son promotoras de la lucha contra las adicciones.
O’Shea Cuevas señaló que la población mexiquense presenta mayor consumo de cigarro en antros, bares, restaurantes y autotransporte, por lo que también dio inicio a la campaña de acreditación de «Transporte público libre de humo de tabaco», en las instalaciones del Centro Universitario de Ixtlahuaca (CUI), para garantizar que los pasajeros y estudiantes no sean afectados por humo en las unidades móviles.
Durante este acto también se informó que el consumo de cigarrillo está asociado a enfermedades cardiovasculares, diversos cánceres, principalmente el de pulmón, y que en la entidad existen 2.3 millones de fumadores que consumen en promedio siete cigarrillos diarios.
El programa de certificación “Espacios Libres de humo de tabaco” brinda asesorías técnicas, difusión de normatividad para el control de tabaco, prevención y tratamiento de adicciones, integración de comités institucionales para protocolos de certificación y supervisa que los espacios cuenten con señalización, avisos de restricción para fumadores y difusión de efectos nocivos del cigarro por medio de periódicos murales.
